Novus are now seeking talented education professionals to join our education team at HMP Stafford a Functional Skills Teacher specialising in Maths skills. This is a Permanent, full-time role working 37 hours per week.
In this role, you will work and be supported by our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our prisoners to develop their functional maths skills for everyday life, which will in turn help them to secure future employment opportunities post release. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach to our learners who have hit a bump in the road but want to learn and improve.
HMP Stafford is a Category C training prison, which is a hub for sex offender prisoners; received nationally. It has a population of circa 750 and 50% of the population are over 50. HMP Stafford is a calm and safe place to work with a supportive team.
The Education Department at HMP Stafford is thoroughly embedded into the wider prison, and has strong links with other departments, regarding many prisoners’ educational improvements and needs. The Senior Management Team (SLT) are Proud to return active citizens, through rehabilitation, to our communities. There is a strong emphasis on citizenship throughout the prison including within the education and vocational departments. HMP Stafford is a normal community in a secure environment.
We operate with safety and security at the forefront of what we do, so our class sizes are small to maximise supportive delivery. The prison team are on hand to ensure the lessons run smoothly. We always try to cater to a learners individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience. Time will be given to planning and your local education manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed. Delivery happens between Monday and Friday and weekends are strictly for rest and relaxation.
What we need from you
To be successful in the role of Functional Skills Maths Teacher you will need:
A teaching qualification
Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
Track record of effective teaching in Maths
Ability to gain and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
