We are seeking an Electrical Installation Workshop Technician to provide high-quality technical support to teachers and learners within electrical workshops. You will support practical delivery through the preparation of tools, materials and resources, and maintain a safe, well‑organised working environment. The role requires proven experience in electrical installation, maintenance, testing and fault finding across domestic, commercial or industrial settings. You will use a range of electrical tools, testing equipment and technical drawings to support learner activity and assessment. Strong knowledge of health and safety, including safe isolation procedures and the use of PPE, is essential. A Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations are required, or willingness to work towards them.

This opportunity is based at our Wythenshawe Campus to join the Automotive, Construction, Engineering and Logistics Department as an Electrical Installation Workshop Technician on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week) basis.

Role Responsibilities

• To carry out agreed technician duties in the relevant teaching areas across sites and off site, when required.
• To adhere to safe working practices at all times and to assist with health and safety advice and support. including the delivery of safety inductions on equipment and good studio/workshop practice.
• To ensure the purchase of cost-effective materials from suppliers working within stated budgets.
• To manage, audit and maintain all stock and technical resources/equipment needed in the support of curriculum areas ensuring staff and students are able to utilise equipment as and when required.
• To ensure that all tools, equipment, materials are kept in good order and organisation.
• To understand Health & Safety requirements and undertake Risk Assessments, manage COSHH data and maintain relevant documentation.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Level 2 English & Mathematics.
• First Aid qualification (or be prepared to work towards within first year).
• Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or BTEC).
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification (essential or working towards).
• Inspection & Testing qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2391) – desirable.
• Health & Safety certification (e.g., IOSH Working Safely) – desirable.  
• Assessor qualification (e.g., CAVA/TAQA) – desirable for supporting learner assessment.

Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working in an educational or training environment (FE college, apprenticeship provider, etc).
• Familiarity with current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and industry standards.
• Experience supporting Level 1–3 Electrical Installation learners, including practical assessments.
• Knowledge of renewable technologies (e.g., solar PV, EV charging systems) or smart home systems.
• Experience maintaining workshop stock, risk assessments, and compliance records.
