We’re looking for a highly organised, accountable and forward‑thinking Functional Skills English Teacher with experience of the City & Guilds FS curriculum and a genuine passion for quality improvement. You’ll deliver engaging learning in line with the EIF and champion the personal development of our learners, enriching the curriculum to build cultural capital, promote British Values, develop employability skills for release, and foster a strong culture of reading for pleasure. Excellent digital skills, creativity and the ability to bring curiosity and enrichment to every lesson are essential. Experience of Ofsted inspections is desirable but not essential; what matters most is a strong moral compass, the ability to meet deadlines, and a commitment to your own CPD. Patience, resilience and an approachable, likeable style are key. Above all, you’ll fit into our close‑knit, one‑team culture with its family feel, supportive ethos and great sense of humour.
We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Low Newton, working as a Functional Skills English Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

HMP Low Newton is the North East's only all-female prison Located in Durham, it caters to both young offenders and adult women. the teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
